Black Moon Lilith: Meeting Your Hidden Power
If your astrological chart tells the story of your life, Black Moon Lilith is the banned chapter: the one you would be punished for reading.
I spoke about Black Moon Lilith quite a lot in this week’s intuitive reading. I pulled the symbol Empathy for the collective and was guided to view it through the lens of Black Moon Lilith. I wanted to understand what repressed energy around empathy was asking to be seen. The card that came forward was Mother of Gods. The message was clear: the repression lies in giving what we never received. Lilith’s energy highlighted our relationship with the nurturing feminine, asking us to reflect on whether, in our own times of struggle, we were truly met with the care we needed. Too often, we learn to give from emptiness, offering what was absent for us. In this new context, empathy becomes less about self-sacrifice and more about community—coming together to transmute individual suffering that has its roots in disconnection from the nurturing feminine.
I am by no means an astrologer, call me a curious investigator, interested in anything and everything. Black Moon Lilith was in my field all last week as I tried to understand how the eclipses were affecting my own astrological chart. I mentioned it briefly to my husband, who knows I go into these rabbit holes, and he gifted me a Black Moon Lilith oracle deck. It felt like a coincidence, yes, but also like an added dimension I could share in my work.
What is Black Moon Lilith?
Black Moon Lilith is an abstract calculation in your astrology birth chart, not a planet or asteroid. She represents your authentic, hidden self, rebellious spirit, and suppressed desires. She is about your innate independence, your refusal to conform, and the primal, sometimes dark or taboo aspects of your psyche. All the things you repress or feel ashamed of, the juicy parts that can be transformed into true power once released. She embodies power struggles, rage, destruction, and creation (think Kali).
Who was Lilith?
Black Moon Lilith is named after the ancient Mesopotamian and Hebrew goddess Lilith. According to myth, she was created from the earth, as Adam’s equal, but was exiled for refusing to lie beneath him during sex. Initially demonized, she has become a symbol of feminist rebellion and empowerment.
Why find your Black Moon Lilith?
It can provide deep insight into hidden desires and challenges, helping you navigate your ‘darker traits’ . There is great healing potential in this darkness because unintegrated and unconscious dark energy fuels many of the horrors in the world today.
Why is this important now?
Because every part of us we acknowledge, reclaim, and embody frees us and the collective. It moves us beyond projecting onto others, and most of all, it frees up the energy we waste pushing down and judging. Think of what you could create with all that currency.
For too long, the feminine divine archetype has been reduced to Venus/Aphrodite. Yet it is much more nuanced, especially with the integration of asteroids (Ceres, Pallas, Juno, and Vesta, to name a few) and the brilliant work of Demetra George. We now have access to a richer expression of the feminine.
Ultimately, Black Moon Lilith reveals your life’s power struggles. “She acts as a mirror which can reveal ancestral trauma, subconscious blocks, codependency, and energetic shadows that hold you back.” (Adama Sesay, Black Moon Lilith Cosmic Alchemy Oracle, p. xi)
How to find your Black Moon Lilith?
There are two ways to calculate your Black Moon Lilith, which I won’t go into since I am not an astrologer. All I can say is that I resonated with the calculation I’m sharing much more than the other. And I encourage you to explore further for yourself.
