Being Homolateral: What It Means for Your Energy
Updated August 2026
If you're exhausted, mentally sluggish, or can't seem to recover, your energy may have gone homolateral. Learn what that means, why it happens, and two simple exercises to restore your crossover pattern.
What is homolaterality?
Our energy systems need to ‘crossover’ in order to act and interact harmoniously and create optimal health. It’s a natural pattern that occurs everywhere in the body right down to our DNA. We literally have criss-crosses everywhere. When we are healthy, our energy crosses side to side, top to bottom and front to back.
The crisscross pattern everywhere in our body resembles the celtic weave pattern beneath.
Homolateral means ‘same side’. When you are homolateral, your energies are no longer crossing over but running in straight lines, up and down. This limits adequate access to energies in your systems. When you are homolateral, your systems are operating at less than 50% of their efficiency.
This pattern usually happens when you are sick or tired as the signal to the body to slow down, rest, heal and regroup. If you take the necessary time to heal, then your energies will automatically start crossing over again.
This phenomenon has been observed in small children: when they are active and busy, their energies cross over. When they start getting tired, their energies become homolateral so they can sleep. When they wake up again, the energies are back to criss-crossing.
Of course, in our modern society, we don’t take the time to slow down, so the homolateral pattern can become a set habit.
This rhythm of clearing and recalibrating is the same territory I cover in what is energy hygiene and why it matters . Homolaterality is really just one signal that your energy systems needs some attention.
When you are consistently homolateral, you are
Less coordinated
Chronically tired
Mentally sluggish
Unable to recover from illness: in fact, some experts seem to believe that your body can’t heal if you are homolateral.
Sometimes depressed: you can’t seem to get out of a dark place.
Doing simple things like walking is difficult because we are going against the flow of the body: it’s like swimming upstream.
The way out of homolaterality is to get your energies to criss-cross. Walking, swimming, running, skating, cross country skiing and doing certain yoga poses are some ways to achieve crossovers. I also share 2 simple crossover exercises underneath.
Benefits of the crossover exercises
They fire up neural pathways in the left and right brain at the same time. They enhance whole brain thinking.
They reorganize the mind-body connections so you behave and perform better.
They stabilize walking gait coordination, build core strength as well as general coordination.
They energize the body and calm the mind.
They improve eye teaming skills which are essential for focus, reading and writing
They help develop proprioception: spatial and kinesthetic awareness
They reboot the nervous system and help to re-integrate the mind and body.
They discharge and recharge your attention and your energy.
They increase self-awareness
If you want to support this process at the frequency level, the Return To Your Soul Blueprint Light Language Activation works across all four levels (physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual), through every layer of the aura and all the energy systems in the body, restoring the original pattern that homolaterality can disrupt.
Two simple Crossover exercises
A. Cross-over: this is an Eden Energy Medicine© (EEM) exercise
Eden Energy Medicine (EEM), developed by Donna Eden, is one of the most widely practiced forms of energy medicine in the world.
Drag your right hand from your left shoulder to your right hip.
Drag your left hand from your right shoulder to your left hip
Repeat each side 3x
B. Cross Crawl: this is a Brain Gym© exercise
Brain Gym©, developed by Paul and Gail Dennison, is an educational kinesiology program that uses simple movements to integrate brain and body for improved learning, focus, and coordination.
Start with the homolateral movement
Tap your left hand on your left knee.
Tap your right hand on your right knee.
Repeat 12x each side.
Follow it by the Cross Crawl
Tap your left hand on your right knee
Tap your right hand on your left knee.
Repeat 12x each side.
The combination of both constitutes one set.
Repeat 3 sets.
You can cross in the front or in the back.
Studying and Homolaterality
Periods of intense learning and studying can be one of the most common triggers for homolaterality. When the body is absorbing a lot of new information, it slows the crossover pattern so it can process and integrate.
Doing crossover exercises at the end of a study session or training can be an effective way to help your body digest new information more easily.
This is the same kind of energetic recalibration I love to work with. If you're curious what that looks like, you can read more about light language activations.
FAQs: Homolateral Energy
Q: What does it mean to be homolateral?
A: Homolateral means your energy is moving in straight lines on the same side of the body instead of crossing over. This happens naturally when you're sick, tired, or absorbing something new, and it can leave your system running at less than half its usual efficiency.
Q: How do I know if I'm homolateral?
A: Common signs include feeling chronically tired, mentally sluggish, uncoordinated, or stuck in a low mood you can't seem to shake. Simple movement, like walking, can also start to feel effortful, almost like swimming upstream.
Q: What causes homolateral energy patterns?
A: Illness, exhaustion, depression and periods of intense learning or change are the most common triggers. It's the body's signal to slow down and regroup; in modern life, since we rarely take that pause, the pattern can become a long-term habit instead of a temporary one.
Q: How do crossover exercises like Cross Crawl help?
A: Crossover exercises such as the EEM Cross-Over and the Brain Gym Cross Crawl reactivate the criss-cross pattern your energy naturally wants to run in. They fire up both hemispheres of the brain at once, rebuild coordination, and help the nervous system re-integrate mind and body.
Q: How often should I do these crossover exercises?
A: There's no strict rule, but doing a few sets daily, especially when you notice the signs of homolaterality, helps keep your energy crossing over consistently. Many people find it especially helpful after periods of learning, illness, or high stress.
A gentle next step
Your body has an original pattern it's always trying to return to. The crossover exercises above help you get there physically.
If you want to support that return at the frequency level, the Return to Your Soul Blueprint Light Language Activation works across all four levels, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual, through every layer of the aura and all the energy systems in the body.
