Beyond the Happy Trap: Tracking the Soul’s True YES
What if the soul isn’t chasing happiness at all… but seeking expansion?
We’re told to “follow our bliss,” to pursue the path of highest joy. But why do so many of us feel disconnected from happiness—like it’s always just out of reach?
For many, happiness feels elusive. Personally, I don’t feel happy the way I did as a child. There’s so much pressure to be happy, to feel happy, to live a happy life. But what does that even mean?
Social media tends to trap happiness in the “big” things—the grand milestones, the high-drama emotions, the curated highlight reels. And when we’re not feeling those highs, it can seem like we’re missing out on life itself.
I no longer have the energy to chase those emotional peaks. Instead, I crave something quieter, steadier—like a consistent undercurrent of contentment.
What if happiness isn’t a crescendo, but a subtle, consistent hum?
Enter: Energized.
I often tell my clients to pay attention to what gives them energy and what drains it. Adjust your path accordingly. We all know that unmistakable sensation of being depleted—or the opposite, expanded—by someone or something. That feeling of expansion is a far more reliable compass than the slippery pursuit of happiness.
Happiness is fleeting. But energy is data.
Energized means expansion. Drained means contraction. And your soul is always in search of some form of expansion.
Of course, there will always be things we must do that deplete us. But if we consciously focus on what energizes us—and do more of that—we can begin to restore the soul’s natural rhythm of growth and replenishment.
So today, examine the things you do and how you feel afterward. Do you feel smaller, shrunken energetically? Or do you feel satisfied—lit up, fueled from within?
Make a list of what drains you. Can you outsource it? Delegate it? Shift your environment so it’s less taxing? Maybe it’s doing housework with music playing, or filing taxes outside in the sun. Small tweaks matter.
Look for sensations like satisfaction, peace, freedom, fulfillment, and delight. These are the signals that you’re energized.
Start there.
Notice what expands you. Then follow that. Let your energy—not society’s idea of happiness—guide your next right step. And if you’re feeling called to explore your soul path more deeply, reach out or share your reflections with me. I’d love to hear what energizes you.
