The Almighty Spoon: Stainless Steel Spoon Energy Healing for Polarity, Grounding & Daily Flow
Updated June 2026
A stainless steel spoon can reset your body's polarity, open your K1 acupressure points, and restore your connection to Earth's energy, without ever going outside.
Here's how an Energy Medicine practitioner uses one every single day.
The Almighty Spoon
As an Energy Medicine practitioner, one of the cool and easy tools I use and recommend is a stainless-steel spoon. Here’s why.
You've all heard about grounding. You've been encouraged to walk on the Earth barefoot, to walk in wet grass (water is a conductor of energy) or sit back against a tree and draw in all its yumminess. These are marvelous antidotes to the highly stressed modern life. According to a 2014 grounding research review published by Dr. Joseph Mercola, 'The Earth is a natural source of electrons and subtle electrical fields, which are essential for proper functioning of our immune systems, circulation, synchronization of biorhythms and other physiological processes. It may actually be the most effective, essential and least expensive and easiest to attain antioxidant.'
But what if you can't draw up the Earth's energies into your body?
What Is Body Polarity and Why Does It Keep Getting Disrupted?
Body polarity refers to the electromagnetic orientation of your energy field. It is the directional flow that allows life force to move correctly through your system.
Our human bodies are essentially a big magnet, a conduit for energies, with Yang energies (that hold a positive charge) flowing through the top of our head and Yin energies (that have a negative charge) coming from the Earth up through our feet. For that energetic flow to happen, your head needs to have a North polarity to draw in the Yang energy and your feet need to have a South polarity to draw in Yin energies. Your polarity is key for optimal health and for taking in energy. When polarity is correct, energy moves normally. This polarity is replicated right down into your cells and everywhere in your body.
Our polarities can get flipped or frozen and we can lose polarity in our energy field or systems, in our meridians, in our chakras, in our organs or muscles. Fear, stress, shock and anxiety can all impact our polarity. Some common threats to our body's natural polarity are cell phones, microwaves, computers, laptops, I-pads, TVs, high tension wires, motors, some exercise bikes, cars, EMFs and electrical wiring.
The North pole of the planet has also shifted recently and has affected magnetic lines around the Earth. Our own polarity is affected when our planet is unstable or going through changes.
The rising yin energies are also contributing to the change in polarity on Earth and in our bodies.
We have a natural affinity to Yang energy: it's just effortless for us to draw it in through the top of our head. For most people, drawing up Yin is slightly harder. Maybe because the Earth energy feels denser to us. Maybe because we have lost that easy connection with Earth due to many cultural and societal factors that bombard our fields constantly.
How the K1 Acupressure Points Connect You to Earth's Energy
Yin energies come in through the Kidney 1 points (K1) on the soles of your feet. These points are said to be the 'Bubbling Spring of energy' or 'Wellness of Life' points and are vital to keep open. They are the first points of the entire meridian system, so they are essential to improving our ability to draw up energy from the Earth. Or what Donna Eden — author of Energy Medicine (Penguin Random House, 2008) — calls 'your suckability': K1 points literally suck up energy from the Earth. They jump start your entire energy system and wake up your energies. Just like everything in our bodies, K1 points can have their polarity flipped and therefore not suck up energy from the Earth.
It's in this context that using a stainless-steel spoon can be extremely useful. You can use any kitchen spoon as long as it is made out of stainless steel. If it's not written on the spoon, then you can use a kitchen magnet to test it. If the magnet sticks to the spoon, then it's stainless steel. You can't use a silver spoon as it has no iron in it and the magnet won't stick.
Restoring lost polarity or correcting it can be done in under a minute. All you need to do is rub the back or rounded side of the stainless-steel spoon on the soles of your feet up and down. You can also rub it in circles and do figure 8's on your feet. You can also rub it over the tops of your feet and also on the inside and the outside of the heels. I encourage you to do it on bare feet, through your socks and when wearing shoes, especially if the soles of your shoes are plastic.
Donna Eden says that 'spooning your feet helps establish a strong connection with the metal in the hemoglobin in the blood and activates the body's energy fields to correct the electromagnetic in every cell in your body.' It lines up all the body's cells in their correct polarity, allowing the flow into and out of the feet. Energy is attracted to stainless steel, allowing it to be easily moved.
When our energies get flipped, we feel 'off' and out of center. When the energy isn't flowing freely in and out of the body, we can feel drained and tired. Spooning returns your body's polarity back to its default mode: in harmony, syncing with the Earth rather than repelling it. It's a fast-track way to what Earth intended. It's also a great way to stay grounded when you are indoors and can't go outside.
How to Use a Stainless Steel Spoon for Energy Healing: 9 Ways
Have I mentioned how much I love my spoon? I am totally enamored with it. I always have one with me — either in my handbag, on my desk or somewhere close by.
Here are other ways you can use it in your daily life.
Sleep
My sleep patterns have always been erratic at best and I have gone through years of not sleeping at all. I put it down to my inability to properly draw in yin energies that feel safe, stable and solid. Yin energies didn't feel good to me for a long time and my body rejected them as soon as they entered my body, sending me into fight or flight.
Using the spoon before going to bed has helped me get used to the yin energies and has balanced out my sleep patterns. This is a process though. Be patient with your body as it adapts to a new way of functioning and relating to the yin energies.
Chakras
I rub the spoon counterclockwise, then clockwise on all my chakras every morning. I like the feeling of congruency and alignment it gives my energy body. I use the spoon on any chakra that needs extra attention at any time during the day. I just tune into my body and see what it needs.
Tension or pain
If you adhere to the belief that pain is energy congestion and that to relieve pain or tension, you need to create space, then spooning the area of pain makes a lot of sense. I do it by rubbing the area up and down, then doing circles and figure 8's. Experiment with the different strokes and see what your body likes best.
Flow
I use my spoon in between client sessions or as a bridge between different activities. It creates an energetic alignment that brings a delightful experience of flow in my life. I rub it all over my body, up and down my spine and in and around my aura. I also rub my spoon on the 'mingmen' point (also named the Gate of Power) which is situated directly opposite the belly button on your back. You want that point to be vibrating and pulsing with life force!
Massage your face, neck and eyes
You can have a separate spoon for your feet or use the same one and just wash it with warm water and soap before you use it on your face.
I tend to rub the spoon all over my face, down my neck (where you can access your vagus nerve) and eyes. I find the area between my eyes holds a lot of tension and I developed the habit of rubbing that spot multiple times a day. It relaxes the nerves and softens the muscles bringing much relief to my headspace.
When my eyes are tired and tense after working on screens for too long, I do figure 8's with my spoon around my eyes. It has that same loosening up effect on the energetic pathways, the muscles and nerves.
FYI, facial gua sha and spoon massage practices have been used for centuries in Korea, Japan and China and are said to improve blood and lymph flow and reduce water retention.
Morning detox
Toxins build up overnight in your body and they are at their highest in the morning. When you get up in the morning, start by drinking a glass of water, then spoon your feet for 15–30 seconds and then deeply massage your feet and hand gaits (the space between the bones on your feet and hands). The gaits are acupressure points that correspond to muscles in your body that go all the way to the hips and the shoulders. Massaging them can help with energetic and lymphatic fluid that can pool in these areas. Stretching the hands and tendons affect the liver and help with detoxing. Don't forget to pull the energy off your toes and fingers when you are finished!
If you're sick
Spoon your feet! Keep drawing up the Earth's energies — she is the ultimate Healer. When I draw her up into my field, she strengthens my biofield like a shield, deepening in width and in substance, more impermeable to shock. I feel more open, clear and protected. Some clients have spooned their way through COVID with success. Yin energies appear to be one of the best ways to protect ourselves and our immune system.
Intestinal health
Donna Eden suggests sticking a spoon inside your cheek, circling it around the mouth and stretching the skin gently. This helps relax the meridians that go through your face. It is a great way to get your Large Intestine, Small Intestine, Stomach, Gall Bladder and Triple Warmer meridians to flow freely and apparently really makes a difference after a big meal. She even suggested it as a way to strengthen your immune system in her COVID series.
Traveling
When you spend a long time either in a plane, a car or train, you are off the ground and lose that all-important contact with the Earth. Spooning your feet regularly during the trip will really help alleviate some of the side effects of traveling and make sure your polarity isn't switched around when you arrive at your destination.
For energy healers and massage therapists
Your hands also have polarity and have electromagnetic energy. If your polarities aren't correct in your hands, you won't be able to properly connect with someone's energy field whether in person or long distance. Spooning your hands can help with that!
After exercise
Spooning your feet or certain muscle groups after exercise is also something to think about. Certain types of exercise can be perceived as stress by our bodies which can then lose polarity as a defense against stress.
As you can see, there are myriads of ways this banal kitchen utensil can help you deal with the intricacies of daily living!
Diving deep into this research has made me wonder about many other things: one of which is, how we, as human beings, influence each other's polarity.
Could the spooning position (when you lie on your side and wrap your partner in a big hug, with your arm resting over their waist — this isn't necessarily sexual — you can spoon a friend, a child etc.) actually be an act of restoring and balancing energetic polarity between two people?
Happy spooning!

FAQs: Stainless Steel Spoon Energy Healing
Q: Can any spoon work for energy healing or does it have to be stainless steel?
A: It needs to be stainless steel specifically. The iron content is what makes it work. Test with a kitchen magnet: if it sticks, you're good. Silver spoons won't work because they contain no iron.
Q: How long should I spoon my feet each day?
A: Even 15–30 seconds in the morning can shift your polarity and open your K1 points. For deeper grounding or sleep support, 1–2 minutes before bed works well. There's no upper limit. As usual, listen to your body.
Q: What does it feel like when body polarity is corrected?
A: Most people notice a subtle but immediate shift, a sense of settling, coming back to center, or feeling more 'in' their body. Over time, energy moves more freely, sleep improves, and that chronic low-level "off" feeling fades.
Q: Is stainless steel spoon therapy the same as gua sha?
A: They share roots. Both use a smooth metal tool to move energy and improve circulation with a different intention. Gua sha focuses on lymph and tissue; spoon energy work focuses specifically on electromagnetic polarity correction and K1 activation.
Q: Can I use this technique if I'm an energy healer or bodyworker?
A: Absolutely, and it's especially important. Your hands carry polarity too, and if it's off, your ability to connect with a client's field is compromised. Spoon your hands before every session.
The Spoon Is Yours Now
This is one of those practices that sounds almost too simple until you start using it daily. Your stainless-steel spoon is a grounding tool, a polarity corrector, a travel companion, and a daily reset. It costs nothing. It fits in your purse. And it connects you back to the Earth when every screen, wire, and fluorescent light in your environment is working overtime to pull you out of alignment.
